Global Innovation Design (MA/MSc)

About

Sir David Attenborough recently warned G7 leaders that urgent action is needed to avoid human-based environmental catastrophe. The combined effect of global warming, biodiversity loss and social inequality suggest we are on the verge of destabilising the entire planet.

In this of all years, GID’s purpose is more relevant and timely than ever. As future design leaders our graduates have practiced combining contextual understanding with technical know-how and creative action to conceive impactful design innovations. Pushing through established and emerging design disciplines –  tangible and intangible – the work presented here aims to deliver social, environmental, economic and cultural benefit, spanning themes such as ethics, gender equality, inclusivity, behaviour change, playfulness, serendipity, problem-solving, food, extended realities and sustainable fashion.

Multidisciplinary design with a global perspective is built into the programme through the London partnership of RCA and Imperial College, and through our international alliance with four other world-leading institutions. Despite the constraints on travel and mobility, the pandemic has sharpened focus on the power of cultural diversity to inform and enrich design, even across great distance, and of the urgent importance of planetary thinking. For these 21 graduates, RCA2021 celebrates the end of a uniquely challenging journey, calling for unprecedented levels of resilience, strength and commitment, as well as new ways of working, sharing and learning. Apart but together; energised, inspired, and hopeful.
