Shan Jin is a womenswear accessories designer, from China.
She aims to induce people's reflection on the current society situation through accessories. Jinshan pays attention to how people adapt to the new environment, as well as helping parents create a new way of getting along with their children.
When Parents and children have been forced to spend long periods of time together and family conflicts have become common occurrence, how to foster positive family relations by way of interaction and engagement has became the direction of my research. My research led me to focus on children’s mental wellbeing, as this has been an important issue for everyone during the pandemic. At the same time, I give children the freedom to express themselves creatively whilst learning how to protect against the pandemic.
Shan Jin designed hats that are changeable the shape using simple cloth and paper as the material. The design is children friendly because it can be assembled by sticking and folding without needles to sew and splice. This design is inspired by Chinese paper lanterns and traditional origami toy techniques.
The user(kids) can be able to design the graphic on the surface of the hat by themself. Shan Jin intends to allow the child to participate in the accessory design process, not just as a user.
She believes that under the epidemic situation, fashion design should choose environmentally friendly materials because the epidemic had already dramatically increased the material waste on the earth. At the same time, reducing the cost of materials makes the product that most families can afford this price.
